Everyone's Random Acts

The following are RAOK that have been posted to my facebook page, sent privately to me, sent to my phone and told to me in person. I am taking off the names for everyone’s privacy and I also edited out the parts that say “Happy Birthday Angie.” But otherwise, the only other editing is for grammar/spelling.

I must say I was so touched by the stories and the feedback I have received. I've even heard from people about RAOK that was done for them through this event. I hope that reading the comments below only stirs more motivation to pay it forward for your fellow man.

  1. For my RAOK, I bought food to donate to PUP which gives food to people's pets that also get food delivered. I can't imagine any animal going hungry and I only wish I could do more!!
  2. For my random act of kindness I bought the guy standing behind me at Five Guys lunch today! He was very surprised :) It was awesome!
  3. I've got 2: #1) I took an unpaid day off work to spend time doing things that my husband really wanted/needed to do. As a workaholic, this was a HUGE gesture for me! #2) We went out to Cracker Barrel and left a $20 tip for our waitress, a very positive - and pregnant - 18 year old.
  4. I did 2 this month; I gave a family member some furniture they needed & shared some copper we scrapped with another family member because they don't have a job & needed money.
  5. I paid for the person's order behind me this morning for breakfast. What a great feeling!!!!!
  6. So, I know it may not seem like much, but I'm not done...so far I've called my mom to see how she's doing and if she needs or just plain wants anything today, she broke her arm at work last week & had surgery yesterday. I prepped my hubby's beverages for work today, and gave him an extra because I know how hot it's been getting lately. I've posted "ads" for fellow classmates' businesses on my facebook wall and on the LWHS group page to help promote them. I checked out your blog, and reposted it on my wall in hopes of inspiring others, even those that don't know you, to do at least one RAOK today. I plan to do more this afternoon, but I haven't quite figured out what yet. Since I don't really leave the house much, I was thinking of helping my daughter draw some pictures and write letters to random people and mail them out. I figured she and I could "Send a Little Sunshine" to some random people that way.
  7. My neighbors have trouble with the air conditioner in their home. I lent them a unit that I have for a spare just in case. They were so appreciative and I told them about your birthday wish. They said "God Bless You" and they will pay it forward.
  8. Our church was giving away boxes of pink lemonade & my son went & got 190 1/2 gallons of it & we gave them to our neighbors, friends & co-workers, they should all be set for the summer lol. {BTW, another one of my friends who doesn’t know this person said she was one of the recipients of the lemonade.}
  9. Tonight after golf, a friend of mine insisted that he pay the whole bill. So, I in turn paid the bill of the older couple at the table behind us. I left before they finished eating, but hopefully it was a pleasant surprise when they asked for their check.
  10. We booked our vacation today and then called some people who need to get away and invited them to spend part of it with us for free!
  11. I took some of my neighbors’ trash to the dumpster and watered plants for them, but not without question, I told them about you, and they ALL wished you a Happy Birthday to you as well...I did figure out that when knocking on neighbors doors, if they don’t know you, most won’t answer...lol so I chose people I knew and had much better luck...lol but they still appreciated it!!
  12. There is a guy that I work with; he is super annoying to not only me, but everyone around us. You know, that one guy that has seen it all, done it all and has always done it better? Who always has to stick his nose where it doesn’t belong? I am sure you get my drift. You are probably wondering where I am going with this story, huh? Well, every day I come in to work with Chic-Fil-A breakfast he ALWAYS, without fail, asks me where his breakfast is, and I always, without fail, tell him its at Chic-Fil-A and he should go pick it up. But, today, I thought of you and bought him breakfast. His face lit up and for that split second he felt like someone actually cared. Later in the day, I heard him bragging to a passer-by of his desk that I bought him breakfast. So, it was def worth it. Thanks again for being so amazing! Happy birthday girl! I hope you have had a blast! Love ya girl, MEAN IT! :)
  13. So....my main RAOK wasn't able to be completed by today :( What I was planning to do is visit an assisted living facility on Sunday (Father's Day) and spend some time with a father that doesn't typically have visitors. Maybe take some balloons & candy and just sit and visit for a bit. The coordinator of activities and staff were excited for my gesture, but they require you to go through a process in order to do that. In the meantime, , I posted a note with some change to a vending machine at work. I will post a pic once I am able to complete my original plan.
  14. Gave away note cards with an encouraging message & left them on random cars... I hope the right people open them! ;-)
  15. Dropped some money on the seat of an old van with its window open at Publix.
  16. Bought donuts and dropped them off to all the kids (25) I work with. Wrote a personalized card for each of my coworkers, office and house parents… Made lunch and dropped it off at the cottage of 2 of my co-workers who could not get away today.
  17. I bought a very special present for someone that will be a gift that keeps giving throughout the years. They are going through a temporary setback and I paid for a DVD of the ultrasound of their baby.
  18. We left $5 in an empty locker at the gym with a note saying “This is a Random Act of Kindness, please enjoy.”
  19. At work today I provided services to customers on their computers that normally cost $200 for free and on the spot. I also did work on customer’s computers on the spot when we would normally check them in and work them in the order they were received.
  20. 1. I gave $100 to a co worker that really needed money. I told her not to worry about paying me back. 2) I donated stuff to hospice. 3) gave furniture to friends in need. (Normally I would have a yard sale with all this stuff & use the money for my family) 4) bought a toy for one of my daughter’s fellow girl scouts while we were on a trip that her mother could not afford to buy. 5) 1 year later I still provide a place to stay for 2 people that do not have a place to stay. 6) Bought lunch for another coworker that had nothing for lunch.
  21. I put in a good word for a couple people applying for jobs where I work. Also adopted a shelter cat.
  22. I gave a couple directions. I didn’t know where it was so I made a phone call to my mom. She didn’t know so she asked her boss. He knew so I then told them how to get where they were headed to watch their grandson’s baseball game.
  23. When I went to and came back from my son's house via turnpike I paid for the person behind me at the toll booth. I was hoping it would start a chain reaction.
  24. I took an acquaintance to the airport. They had to be there at 5:30 a.m. which means we left before breakfast. I started to tell them to find somebody else because it interfered with my work schedule, but then honestly, I thought of you - and I said I would do it. I just worked longer 2 days to make up the time. I am also planning to take cinnamon rolls to our fire station that is close to our house.
  25. I had to do some grocery shopping and was just having an ordinary shopping day. After paying and getting everything in my car a woman, about my age, was walking through the parking lot asking anyone who would talk to her if they had a gas can. She approached me and I didn't have one, but told her that I would buy her one. So, back into Walmart we went. All the way back to automotive we carried on a conversation. I found out her name, that she is a single mother like me, that she didn't have a job and was living on unemployment, and was about 40 miles from home with only 2 dollars and her debit card had no money on it. Her daughter (15yrs old) had been sitting in the car for 2 hours waiting for her to find someone with a can she could borrow for gas. I felt so bad for her when she told me that some people ignored her and just walked away from her like they didn’t hear her. So after I got her the gas can (5 gallons) I drove her across the street to Sam's club and filled it up. The whole time we were in my car, I was a little worried that she might be trying to lure me in for some kind of robbery, but I just said a little prayer that I was doing the right thing and for God to please be with me to help this woman. I was fine. We got the gas and got it in her car. She wanted me to give her my address so she could send me the money back, but I told her that when she gets on her feet to remember me and help someone in a situation like she was in yesterday. She promised she would and I was on my way home!

Random Acts Event

I am providing a link to the event invite that I posted on Facebook for the Random Acts of Kindness for my birthday. Click here   Facebook Event    to read the feedback I received from some people who did their random acts of kindness.

Please note, I am working on my next set of RAOK's (remember I'm trying to do 33). Also, I have received private messages, texts and writings on my regular facebook wall, so I am in the process of compiling all of these into one document that I will post on an upcoming blog.

Thank you for reading about our RAOK.

Hoping to make someone's day brighter,
Angie ;)

Cupcakes, Cookies & Gas

Random Acts Part 1

For my birthday this year I asked my friends to join me in doing something special and/or thoughtful for someone else (stranger or not).

Here is the first part of my list. I am planning to do a minimum of 33 acts for the 33 years I have walked on this earth.

**PLEASE NOTE: These are things I may randomly do already and keep to myself under normal circumstances, but I think I have to share them, to inspire others to pay it forward.

  1. My friend Tammy took me to lunch as an early birthday present. Since the restaurant is well known for their delicious cupcakes, we paid for 2 cupcakes for the person who came after us. The lady who ran the restaurant said that no one had ever done this before.
  2. Dropped off $20 (anonymously) at our church’s snack bar to take care of the next few people. Snacks are priced between $ .25 to $2, so I think several people were pleasantly surprised!
  3. While in line to pay for the lunch buffet for father's day with my family, girls were selling Girl Scout cookies and I overheard a cashier saying she wondered how much they cost so after lunch I gave enough money to the girls to buy two boxes for the cashiers.
  4. I left twice as much as I would normally leave as a tip at the buffet.
  5. Gave a small care package of items to a friend which included razors, body wash, deodorant.
  6. Went in to get a drink at a gas station and bought a $10 gas card. I then took it out to the gas pump and handed it to the first person I saw coming in. He was very surprised, so much that he didn’t know what to say and ended up telling me Happy Father’s Day (me, a woman with no kids)!!
  7. I bought 4--$5 gift cards to give to people when I feel impressed to, and I have given out two so far!
  8.  I gave quarters to some kids for the gumball machine.
  9. I ordered Chinese food for dinner and when I ordered it, the sun was shining, but then by the time the food was delivered, it started pouring rain. I gave the guy a $14 tip for coming out in the rain!

To be continued…

Please feel free to share Random Acts of Kindness you have incorporated into your day. Remember it only takes a moment to make someone else feel special. ;)
